Features in the primordial power spectrum : constraints from the CMB and the limitation of the 2 dF and SDSS redshift surveys to detect

چکیده

We allow a more general (step-function) form of the primordial power spectrum than the usual featureless power-law Harrison–Zeldovich (with spectral index n = 1) power spectrum, and fit it to the latest Cosmic Microwave Background data sets. Although the best-fitting initial power spectrum can differ significantly from the power-law shape, and contains a bump at scales k ∼ 0.003 hMpc, we find that Ωm ≈ 0.24, consistent with previous analyses that assume power-law initial fluctuations. We also explore the feasibility of the 2dF and SDSS galaxy redshifts surveys to observe these features, and we find that even if features exist in the primoridal power spectrum, they are washed out by the window functions of the redshift surveys on scales k < 0.03 hMpc.

Optimization of spectroscopic surveys for testing non-Gaussianity

We investigate optimization strategies to measure primordial non-Gaussianity with future spectroscopic surveys. We forecast measurements coming from the 3D galaxy power spectrum and compute constraints on primordial non-Gaussianity parameters fNL and nNG. After studying the dependence on those parameters upon survey specifications such as redshift range, area, number density, we assume a refere...

Cosmological constraints from galaxy clustering

In this manuscript I review the mathematics and physics that underpins recent work using the clustering of galaxies to derive cosmological model constraints. I start by describing the basic concepts, and gradually move on to some of the complexities involved in analysing galaxy redshift surveys, focusing on the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) and the Sloan Digital Sky survey (SDSS). Difficu...

Exploring Large-scale Structure with Billions of Galaxies

We consider cosmological applications of galaxy number density correlations to be inferred from future deep and wide multi-band optical surveys. We mostly focus on very large scales as a probe of possible features in the primordial power spectrum. We find the proposed survey of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope may be competitive with future all-sky CMB experiments over a broad range of scale...

Redshifting Rings of Power

The cosmic microwave background ~CMB! has provided a precise template for features in the linear power spectrum: the matter-radiation turnover, sound horizon drop, and acoustic oscillations. In a two-dimensional power spectrum in redshift and angular space, the features appear as distorted rings, and yield simultaneous, purely geometric, measures of the Hubble parameter H(z) and angular diamete...
